Battle the holiday bulge
One of the most un-believable aspects of the original "Star Trek" TV adventures had nothing to do with travel or warfare in space or weird life-forms.Instead, it was the idea advanced on at least one episode that meals could be reduced to a pill. The notion was one day, humans would accept receiving sustenance in the manner of a daily dose of medication. Food as necessary evil.
LOL.
To find laughable the notion that humans would accept such, observe how many visits end up around the kitchen table. People eating and drinking together is a relationship key — so much that people gravitate to the kitchen even when it's not mealtime.
People sharing food and drink is central to the observances of most major religions (our word "feast" comes from the Latin word for joyful). Bonds are strengthened when people get together and eat. Just look at our canon of Christmas songs for reference to moments when people come to eat, drink and enjoy one another's presence.
