Awards/honors
■ Three music educators in Fayette County Public Schools have earned Teacher of the Year accolades in District 7 of the Kentucky Music Educators Association.
The elementary-level honoree is Lydia Wainright of Maxwell Spanish Immersion; the middle school recipient is April Kite, assistant band director at Beaumont; and the high school winner is Chuck Smith, band director at Lafayette.
In addition to Fayette, KMEA's District 7 includes Jessamine, Woodford, Franklin, Scott, Harrison, Bourbon and Clark counties.
■ Dr. Lon R. Hays, chair of the University of Kentucky Department of Psychiatry, has been elected secretary of the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Additionally, Hays serves on the finance, maintenance of dertification, external relations and credentialing committees.
■ A paper detailing the findings of UK College of Agriculture researchers was selected as one of the top research breakthroughs in chemistry for 2011 by the editors of Chemical and Engineering News, a weekly magazine published by the American Chemical Society.
