Tackling environmental issues

Sonoma Valley residents Jeff Gaarder and Joe Neely are local representatives of Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA), an environmental consulting firm operating on the cutting edge of sustainable energy, dealing with global warming as it effects local agriculture, environmental planning and cleanup and remediation of contaminated sites.

Gaarder, a 22-year Valley resident, and Neely (19 years) manage one of CRA's more than 90 offices that employ a staff of 3,000 working on projects around the world.

Established in 1976, CRA provides services in environmental site assessment and remediation; facility decommissioning and demolition; agricultural services, regulatory compliance and permitting, environmental health and safety, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality management, information management, and municipal infrastructure planning, design and construction.

Gaarder was born in Berkeley and raised in San Rafael. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in soil science at Cal Poly, and is a state certified soil scientist. He and his wife, Carolyn, have a daughter, Zoe, a junior at Sonoma Valley High School.
