Next year's winners of the most important research award in Germany have been announced: The Joint Committee of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) in Bonn today named eleven researchers — two women and nine men — as winners of the 2012 Leibniz Prize. They were pre-selected by the relevant nominations committee from 131 nominations. Five of the award winners work in the life sciences, three in the natural sciences, two in the humanities and social sciences, and one in engineering sciences. Nine of the honourees will each receive a cash prize of 2.5 million euros; two scientists will share a prize and receive 1.25 million euros each. The award ceremony will be held on 27 February 2012 in Berlin.
