Could I study food science and nutrition, & then work with clients to improve their health (as a dietitian) ?

Question: I want to study what a nutritionist does, but the job of a dietitian is more appealing to me. Is it possible to study nutrition and then work in a clinic that helps people to improve their diets? (Like a Dietitian does). So to sum up can I do a job like this after studying Nutrition


Answer: A dietitian in many states are required to be licensed, registered. Should that be the case for the state you want to work, then it is unlikely you could be a dietitian. The best thing to do is to contact the state board of medical examiner to ask if dietitian need to be licensed

Healthy Starkville Committee offers grants

The committee's award money will be split into 20 mini-grants that will be worth between $500 and $1,000 and one larger grant that will be worth up to $5,000. The mini-grants will not require any kind of matching funds, but the $5,000 grant will require some reciprocation.

Williams said the grants could impact both the city and the university.

"The grants offer individuals and organizations funds to help improve the community both on the Mississippi State campus and in Starkville," he said.

Williams said the Healthy Starkville Committee is interested in and determined to help any project that might have a positive effect on the Starkville community.

Some of the committee's goals include increasing awareness of available parks and recreation facilities, promoting community activities that encourage a healthy lifestyle and recognizing individuals and groups who are promoting such lifestyles. The grants will work to make these and other goals become reality.

Semester #10 - Nutrition Nut on the Run

First day of school… I think… for now… until I realize a B.S. is just that — B.S.

I was awake anxiously again before my alarm this morning. This time it wasn’t in anticipation of a long training run in the rain . I supported the first day jitters with extra-strong iced coffee made by the roommate. And yes, even after 18 years as a student, there still exists some mild anxiety about a new schedule because it’s just that – new and unknown.

Even though I am embarking on my 10th and final semester of my undergrad degree – yay, super senior! – I will not be running an easy, flat route to the finish line (a.k.a. graduation stage).

My final fall semester was a relatively light load; this spring, I have 5 involved classes and 1 internship to keep my mind stimulated ‘til May.
