As reported by the Reuters, a study published in the Journal Obstetrics & Gynecology claims that overweight pregnant women can diet without worrying about the babys health.
Study conducted by a research team led by Julie A. Quinlivan of Ramsay Health Care in Joondalup, Australia, suggests that diet can help reduce maternal weight gain in obese pregnant women without risking birth weight of the newborn.
The research included controlled trials in which out of 537 overweight pregnant women some randomly chosen women were given pre-natal dietary intervention, notes the newswire.
Results tabulated by combining the four randomised controlled trials suggested that obese pregnant women on dietary intervention gained 14 pounds less compared to the women not on diet, reports the British news agency.
According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), an advisory panel to the U.S. government, gaining 11 to 20 pounds is normal for obese women during pregnancy, learns the leading news agency.
