Can I diet 5 days a week and take the weekends off and still lose weight?

Question: Is this healthy to do so? I go the gym Mon-Fri... a least burning 800-900 calories a workout. I also am on a restrictive calorie diet of 1500 cal/day. I started my diet on the 10th of June.. its been about 2 weeks already, and I am already down 5 pounds! Is it ok to splurge on


Answer: with as much as you're doing, you should be fine. I would still avoid alcohol and sugars in large quantities, but eating about 2000-2200 calories on the weekend isn't going to KILL you. Try to balance 2 healthy meals a day with one splurge. Like, if you know you are gonna have


sorry, but calories are still calories. eat anything you want, just eat very LITTLE of it. it's all about eating in moderation.

Here’s the thing about food: When I look at a restaurant menu, my thoughts don’t directly go toward, “Say, this looks like the most delicious offering on the menu. I’ll go with this.”

Nope, it’s more like, “Say, this looks like the largest serving on the menu, thus allowing me to gorge myself like a snake on a mouse farm. I’ll go with this.”

For me, when it comes to food, quantity always tops quality. At least for two more days, anyway.

That’s because, come Monday, I and three coworkers will join the Scale Back Alabama challenge as part of team Diet Riot.

That means I have 10 weeks to lose 10 pounds. If my calculations are correct, that’s (Option A) 1 pound per week, or (Option B) all 10 pounds during Week 10.

I hope it doesn’t come down to Option B, but I am quite a procrastinator.

However, I feel confident in my ability to succeed, though, because Diet Riot is under the direction of Team Captain and fellow TimesDaily Staff Writer Lisa Rickman.

I guess some people going through traumatic, life-changing events curl up in bed, pull the covers over their heads, and eat carton after carton of Ben & Jerry’s. But I did almost exactly the opposite. Which I’ll go ahead and note is truly weird for me. I’m traditionally much more of the shove-my-face-full-of-food-and-crrrrrry kind of person, but in this instance I wasn’t. Maybe there was some kind of unconscious internal push toward the idea of transformation, toward CHANGE , because I so very much wanted that in so many different parts of my life, I’m not sure. But the upshot was, I lost about 40 pounds in an unprecedentedly short period of time. And I felt better, physically and mood-wise, than I had in maybe 10 years.
